Claim: The Afrikaner Volksfront (AVF), a separatist umbrella organisation uniting several right-wing Afrikaner groups including the Boerestaat Party, Herstigte Nasionale Party and Oranjewerkers, was active from 7 May 1993 to November 1996; it advocated a "Volkstaat" incorporating Pretoria, parts of the former Transvaal, and northern Kimberley and Northern Natal, envisioned as a state with the right to secede from a federal South Africa. Claim: The Freedom Front (later renamed Freedom Front Plus) was founded in March 1994 by General Constand Viljoen as a breakaway from the AVF, which had opposed participation in South Africa's 1994 democratic elections; Viljoen registered the party to contest the election after South African negotiators, facilitated in part by Thabo Mbeki, agreed to include self-determination as an additional constitutional principle in the 1993 interim Constitution, with the final constitution likewise reflecting the possibility of self-determination for cultural communities.

Claim: Orania, an Afrikaner-majority settlement established in 1980 with its associated Orania Beweging founded in 1991 to pursue Afrikaner self-determination and autonomy, had an estimated population of about 3,000 as of 2023-2024; in South Africa's 2024 general election, the Freedom Front Plus received 65.62% of the vote within Orania, the Democratic Alliance 22.16%, Hope4SA 6.63%, and the African Christian Democratic Party 2.97%, while nationally the Freedom Front Plus won 6 of 400 National Assembly seats. This bundle presents these specific, measured indicators of support, rather than treating Afrikaner identity itself as evidence of Volkstaat support.
