2005: founding of the Texas Nationalist Movement

Daniel Miller founded the TNM in 2005 as a splinter of a faction of the Republic of Texas group, campaigning for a lawful independence referendum.[1]

Repeated legislative referendum bills

Texas legislators have repeatedly filed a Texas Independence Referendum Act; the most recent version, HB 3596, was filed 6 March 2023 and did not pass.[2]

2024-2026: petitions and party platform planks

In 2024, TNM submitted over 140,000 petition signatures and the Republican Party of Texas adopted an independence-referendum platform plank.[3]

At the party's 2026 state convention, further TNM-authored planks were adopted.[4]
