The primary text of the Treaty of Friendship, signed 1 August 1962, under which New Zealand agreed, when requested, to act as Western Samoa's diplomatic channel of communication with other governments and international organisations and as its representative at certain conferences, without impairing Samoa's right to formulate its own foreign policy.
