Current constitutional position
Chechnya is governed as a republic of the Russian Federation under the 2003 constitution and a Moscow-aligned administration. The Chechen Republic of Ichkeria continues to exist only as a government-in-exile; this bundle does not document an active mass independence campaign inside Chechnya as of 2026.[1]
