Current position

Cabinda remains a province of Angola. The 2006 peace memorandum largely ended large-scale insurgency, but the underlying independence question remained unresolved as of 2024, when FLEC's armed wing issued an ultimatum demanding Angolan military withdrawal.[1]

    Claim: The Cabindan conflict remained unresolved as of 2024: in April 2024, the armed wing of FLEC issued a 30-day ultimatum demanding the complete withdrawal of Angolan military forces from Cabinda, and FLEC and Cabindan civil-society groups made calls to reopen peace talks with the Angolan government in Luanda that had, per the sources reviewed, gone unanswered.
