Annobón remains a province of Equatorial Guinea; the 2022 unilateral declaration of independence has not been internationally recognized and has not altered the island's formal administrative status.[1]

Claim: On 8 July 2022, representatives of the Annobonese people unilaterally declared the independence of the Republic of Annobón from Equatorial Guinea; this declaration has not received international recognition, and the movement has since sought international support, including through membership in the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO), for recognition of its unilateral declaration of independence.
