Claim: The Annobonese people (also known as Ambô or Êmbô), the majority population of the island of Annobón and historically a minority within Equatorial Guinea as a whole, maintained their own governance structure until the arrival of Spanish colonial administration in 1905, after which the island came under Spanish, and later Equatorial Guinean, sovereignty.

Claim: On 31 March 2021, representatives describing themselves as the Republic of Annobón submitted a request for autonomy to the government of Equatorial Guinea; according to the movement's own account, this and subsequent attempts to claim autonomy received no government response, and the movement has characterized the government's subsequent conduct toward the Annobonese people as escalating "aggression," a characterization this bundle presents as the movement's own attributed claim, not independently verified.

Claim: On 8 July 2022, representatives of the Annobonese people unilaterally declared the independence of the Republic of Annobón from Equatorial Guinea; this declaration has not received international recognition, and the movement has since sought international support, including through membership in the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO), for recognition of its unilateral declaration of independence.
