Current position
No independent Wa state has been declared; the UWSA maintains a de facto autonomous administration over the "Wa State Government Special Administrative Region" within Myanmar. Since the 2021 coup, the UWSA has pursued calculated neutrality toward the military government, a stance shaped substantially by Chinese influence and leverage over the organization.[1][2]
