Current position
Tigray remains a regional state of Ethiopia, governed under the framework of the 2022 Pretoria Agreement. Its Interim Regional Administration's leadership has been contested between rival TPLF factions since 2024, with the Debretsion Gebremichael-led faction strengthened by a May 2026 regional council election.[1]
