Current position
The Talysh have no dedicated administrative region or formal minority status within Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani authorities continue to prosecute Talysh activists and researchers who advocate autonomy, decentralization or minority-language rights, most recently in the 2025 sentencing of Igbal Abilov.[1]
