Current position

The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao remains a self-governing region of the Philippines. Both the MNLF and MILF have moved substantially toward electoral and institutional participation, though the transition to a fully elected regular parliament has faced disputes, including a hung parliament following the 2026 election.[1]

Claim: Following the establishment of the BARMM, Nur Misuari's MNLF transitioned toward participation in electoral politics, including through the Mahardika Party ahead of planned Bangsamoro parliamentary elections; the first such elections, originally planned for 2025, were affected by disputes including the exclusion of Sulu from the Bangsamoro region, and a subsequent 2026 parliamentary election to elect the first regular parliament resulted in a hung parliament.
