Current position
Bermuda remains a British Overseas Territory with internal self-government. The governing Progressive Labour Party maintains independence as a long-term goal and commissioned a 2022 report examining the option, but no subsequent referendum has been scheduled, and the party won re-election in February 2025 with 25 of 36 seats.[1]
