Current position
Khuzestan is an ordinary province of Iran with no distinct Arab autonomous or federal status. ASMLA's current operational status is unclear following its retraction of its initial claim of responsibility for the 2018 Ahvaz military parade attack, and this bundle does not document confirmed organized Ahwazi separatist activity closer to the present.[1]

Claim: On 22 September 2018, gunmen attacked a military parade in Ahvaz, killing 25 people (including 12 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps soldiers, a child, and other civilians) and wounding around 70, with the five attackers also killed; both the Islamic State and ASMLA initially claimed responsibility, but ASMLA subsequently denied involvement, attributing the initial claim to a faction expelled from the organization in 2015, while Iranian officials blamed militants based in Syria and alleged US and Gulf-state involvement. This bundle does not adjudicate responsibility for the attack, which remains disputed among the sources consulted.
