Voters rejected a Welsh Assembly proposed under the Wales Act 1978 by a large margin.
What happened
The Wales Act 1978 would have created a Welsh Assembly with executive, but not legislative, functions. Put to a referendum on 1 March 1979, the proposal was rejected by a large margin.[1]
