ICC arrest warrants, 2024
The ICC issued arrest warrants against Israel's prime minister and former defense minister, and separately against a Hamas military commander.
What happened
On 21 November 2024, ICC Pre-Trial Chamber I unanimously issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges including the war crime of starvation as a method of warfare and crimes against humanity, and separately for Hamas military commander Mohammed Deif on charges including crimes against humanity of murder and torture and war crimes including hostage-taking.[1]

Claim: On 21 November 2024, ICC Pre-Trial Chamber I unanimously rejected Israel's jurisdictional challenges and issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges including the war crime of starvation as a method of warfare and the crimes against humanity of murder, persecution and other inhumane acts, covering the period from at least 8 October 2023 to at least 20 May 2024; the Chamber separately issued a warrant for Hamas military commander Mohammed Deif on charges including crimes against humanity of murder and torture and war crimes including hostage-taking. These are arrest warrants reflecting the Chamber's finding of reasonable grounds to believe crimes were committed, not convictions; none of the three individuals has stood trial.
