Editorial annotation
Consulted for the text of the Royal Ordinance of Charles X, King of France, dated 17 April 1825, recognising Haitian independence in exchange for a 150-million-franc indemnity to former French colonists, since a direct fetch of the ordinance's own text was not available. Also consulted for the 1838 reduction of the indemnity to 90 million francs and payments continuing until 1947.
