Admission of Zimbabwe to the United Nations, 1980
Following the Security Council's recommendation, the General Assembly admitted the Republic of Zimbabwe as the 153rd member of the United Nations.
What happened
The Security Council, having examined Zimbabwe's application for UN membership, unanimously recommended on 30 July 1980 that the General Assembly admit the Republic of Zimbabwe.[1] The General Assembly did so at the 1st plenary meeting of its eleventh special session on 25 August 1980.[2]
