Western Sahara talks in Madrid and Washington, 2026
US-convened talks brought Morocco, the Frente POLISARIO, Algeria and Mauritania together, with the UN Personal Envoy co-chairing.
What happened
Security Council Report, citing media reports, described talks in Madrid in early February 2026 and in Washington on 23–24 February, at which Morocco reportedly presented a revised autonomy proposal; no official results had been reported.[1] Council members were briefed on a strategic review of MINURSO on 23 April 2026.[2]
