Admission of Vietnam to the United Nations, 1977
The Security Council recommended the Socialist Republic of Vietnam's admission to the United Nations on 20 July 1977, and the General Assembly admitted it that September.
What happened
The Security Council, having examined the application of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, recommended at its 2025th meeting on 20 July 1977 that the General Assembly admit it to UN membership, adopted by consensus.[1] The General Assembly admitted the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam to UN membership by resolution 32/2, adopted at its 1st plenary meeting on 20 September 1977.[2]
