UN Partition Plan for Palestine, 1947

The UN General Assembly recommended dividing Mandatory Palestine into Arab and Jewish states, a plan accepted by Jewish leadership and rejected by Arab leadership.

What happened

On 29 November 1947, UN General Assembly Resolution 181 (II) recommended the partition of Mandatory Palestine into independent Arab and Jewish states, with Jerusalem and Bethlehem constituted as a corpus separatum under a special international administration; the resolution was adopted by 33 votes to 13, with 10 abstentions.[1]
