What happened
The Tripura National Volunteers (TNV) was founded in 1978 with assistance from the Mizo National Front and launched an armed campaign in the early 1980s for "a free Tripura." The TNV signed a peace agreement with the Indian and Tripura state governments in 1988, agreeing to disarm in exchange for measures to restore tribal lands.[1]

Claim: The Tripura National Volunteers (TNV), a Tripuri nationalist militant group, was founded in 1978 with assistance from the Mizo National Front and launched an armed campaign in the early 1980s for "a free Tripura," including demanding in a 1983 letter to Prime Minister Indira Gandhi that non-tribal settlers who arrived after 15 October 1947 be deported or resettled outside Tripura.
