Transfer of the UN China seat to the PRC, 1971
The United Nations transferred China's seat from the ROC to the PRC, a major turning point in Taiwan's international recognition.
What happened
In 1971, the UN General Assembly transferred the China seat from the ROC to the PRC; Taiwan has since participated in international bodies under the name "Chinese Taipei."[1]

Claim: Taiwan, under the name Republic of China, represented "China" at the United Nations until 1971, when UN General Assembly action transferred the China seat to the People's Republic of China; Taiwan has since participated in a number of international organisations under the name "Chinese Taipei" rather than as a UN member state, and most UN member states today neither recognise it as an independent state nor as the government of China.
