Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan, 2018
South Sudan's government and opposition parties signed the Revitalised Agreement in September 2018, providing a renewed roadmap for a permanent ceasefire and a transitional government of national unity.
What happened
According to an independent account, the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) was signed on 12 September 2018 in Addis Ababa.[1] The UN Security Council described the Revitalised Agreement in March 2019 as "an important step forward in the peace process that provides a window of opportunity to achieve sustainable peace and stability in South Sudan," while noting that pre-transitional institutions envisaged by the agreement were still being formed and calling on parties to complete them.[2]
