The Palestine National Council proclaimed the State of Palestine, subsequently acknowledged by the UN General Assembly.
What happened
On 15 November 1988, the Palestine National Council proclaimed the State of Palestine (the "Algiers Declaration"); UN General Assembly Resolution 43/177 of 15 December 1988 acknowledged this proclamation and decided that the designation "Palestine" should be used in place of "Palestine Liberation Organization" within the UN system.[1]
