Admission of Pakistan to the United Nations, 1947
The Security Council unanimously recommended Pakistan's admission to the United Nations on 12 August 1947, and the General Assembly admitted Pakistan as a member on 30 September 1947.
What happened
The Security Council, having received and considered the application of Pakistan, unanimously recommended at its 190th meeting on 12 August 1947 that the General Assembly admit Pakistan (together with Yemen) to UN membership.[1] The General Assembly did so on 30 September 1947, determining that "Pakistan and Yemen are, in its judgment, peace-loving States, within the meaning of Article 4 of the Charter, and are able and willing to carry out their obligations under the Charter," and deciding "to admit Pakistan and Yemen as Members of the United Nations."[2]
