What happened
In September 1919, North Caucasian religious and military leader Uzun-Hajji proclaimed the North Caucasian Emirate, an unrecognized monarchy claiming authority over parts of Dagestan and the wider North Caucasus under nominal Ottoman protection, with support from the Democratic Republic of Georgia; the Emirate collapsed after Uzun-Hajji's death on 30 March 1920 and the establishment of Soviet control over the region.[1]
