Naga-Indian government ceasefire, 1997
An indefinite ceasefire between India and the NSCN-IM faction halted major hostilities and opened the door to a decades-long negotiation process.
What happened
On 1 August 1997, the Government of India and NSCN-IM entered into an indefinite ceasefire agreement, under which Indian counter-insurgency operations against NSCN-IM cadres were halted in designated areas.[1]

Claim: On 1 August 1997, the Government of India and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM), a later faction that emerged from splits within the original Naga movement, entered into an indefinite ceasefire agreement, under which Indian counter-insurgency operations against NSCN-IM cadres were halted in designated areas.
