The Security Council unanimously recommended the Malagasy Republic's admission to the United Nations on 29 June 1960, and the General Assembly admitted it on 20 September 1960.
What happened
The Security Council, having examined the application of the Malagasy Republic, unanimously recommended at its 870th meeting on 29 June 1960 that the General Assembly admit it to UN membership.[1] The General Assembly, at its 864th plenary meeting on 20 September 1960, decided to admit the Malagasy Republic to UN membership, alongside several other newly independent states admitted the same day.[2]
