The ICJ found Israel's continued presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory unlawful and called for its end.
What happened
On 19 July 2024, the International Court of Justice issued an advisory opinion finding that Israel's continued presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory is unlawful, that Israel is obligated to end this presence as rapidly as possible, cease new settlement activity and evacuate settlers, and make reparation; other states and international organizations are obligated not to recognize the situation as legal or assist in maintaining it.[1]

Claim: On 19 July 2024, the International Court of Justice issued an advisory opinion finding that Israel's continued presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory is unlawful, that Israel is obligated to bring this presence to an end as rapidly as possible, to cease all new settlement activity and evacuate settlers, and to make reparation for damage caused; the Court further found that other states and international organizations are obligated not to recognize as legal the situation arising from Israel's presence and not to render aid or assistance in maintaining it. As an advisory opinion, this is not binding in the manner of a judgment between named parties in contentious proceedings.
