Admission of Guinea-Bissau to the United Nations, 1974
Following the Security Council's unanimous recommendation, the General Assembly admitted the Republic of Guinea-Bissau as a member of the United Nations, at the same plenary meeting at which Bangladesh and Grenada were also admitted.
What happened
The Security Council, having examined Guinea-Bissau's application for UN membership, unanimously recommended on 12 August 1974 that the General Assembly admit the Republic of Guinea-Bissau.[1] The General Assembly did so at its 2233rd plenary meeting on 17 September 1974 — the same meeting at which it also admitted Bangladesh and Grenada.[2]
