Green March, 1975
A Moroccan march into Western Sahara went ahead despite the Security Council’s appeal to halt it; the Council deplored it and called for the participants’ withdrawal.
What happened
On 6 November 1975 the Security Council asked King Hassan II to end the declared march at once and then, noting that it had taken place, deplored it and called on Morocco to withdraw all participants.[1] Morocco commemorates the march each year as the Green March.[2]
