De Wever government formed, 2025

Bart De Wever, an N-VA founder, became the first Flemish nationalist Prime Minister of Belgium at the head of a five-party "Arizona coalition".

What happened

Following the June 2024 federal and regional elections, in which N-VA and Vlaams Belang each became the largest party in the Flemish Parliament, a five-party coalition — N-VA, Forward, CD&V, MR and Les Engagés — was sworn in on 3 February 2025 under Prime Minister Bart De Wever, an N-VA co-founder and its leader from 2004 to 2025.[1][2][3][4]

The coalition is nicknamed "Arizona" after the US state flag's colours, matched to the traditional colours of the Belgian political families represented: yellow for Flemish nationalists, blue for liberals, and orange for Christian democrats.[5] De Wever became the first Flemish nationalist to hold the office of Prime Minister of Belgium.[3]
