Voters narrowly rejected a proposal to merge Corsica's two departments into a single, more autonomous local authority.
What happened
On 6 July 2003, Corsican voters were asked to approve merging the island's two departments and its existing territorial collectivity into a single local authority with greater devolved powers. The proposal was narrowly rejected, 50.98% to 49.02%, a margin of just 2,190 votes.[1]
