Catalan participation process on political future, 2014
A consultation on whether Catalonia should become a state, and an independent one, went ahead as a volunteer-run “participation process” after court suspensions.
What happened
The consultation asked whether Catalonia should become a state and, if so, an independent one.[1] After court suspensions it was held as a “participation process” run largely by volunteers; reference sources record 2,305,290 participants, 80.76% of whom chose Yes-Yes.[2][3]
In June 2015 the Constitutional Court declared the Generalitat’s actions calling it unconstitutional.[4]
