Annan Plan referendums, 2004
A UN reunification plan was approved by Turkish Cypriots but rejected by Greek Cypriots, rendering it void.
What happened
On 24 April 2004, concurrent referendums were held in the Republic of Cyprus and in the Turkish Cypriot-administered area on the fifth revision of the UN's "Annan Plan" for reuniting the island. 65% of Turkish Cypriots voted in favour, while 76% of Greek Cypriots voted against; under the plan's own terms, this rejection rendered it null and void.[1]
