What happened
On 21 January 2023, Canada announced an agreement between the Cameroonian government and multiple Ambazonian groups to enter a peace process, following the 2022 end of Swiss mediation.[1]

Claim: The Ambazonian separatist movement has faced significant internal leadership divisions, with multiple rival claimants to its presidency; on 21 January 2023, Canada announced that the Cameroonian government and multiple Ambazonian groups had signed an agreement to enter a Canada-facilitated peace process, following the Cameroonian government's 2022 termination of an earlier Swiss-facilitated mediation effort. On 24 September 2024, Ambazonia Governing Council (AGovC) leader Ayaba Cho Lucas was arrested in Norway and charged with inciting crimes against humanity, after which AGovC deputy Julius Nyih was declared interim leader.
